My Bio

Commissions are open. Please commission me. Here is my info. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1yN3gKKH9hpC_6fT6Hq8hvjgitvi3KRW34v57JycDzyE/edit

I wanna get one thing out of the way first. I'm not Kyrgyz. My location is set to Kyrgyzstan only because I live in Kyrgyzstan.

Hello, my name is Mark. My primary medium is traditional art. The good old fashioned pencil and paper. And sometimes I trace my drawings with a pen.

Inspirations.

Hmm.. I.. don't really have any inspirations.. Do artists usually have those? I was inspired to get into art in the first place by Hyun's Dojo and RHG and all that, but that's not my main inspiration anymore. Now the only thing that inspires me is how much I enjoy art and how passionate I am about it, and also just seeing arts that I love. I'm not inspired by any specific artists either. I just see arts here and there and that inspires me I guess.

What I’m doing right now.

I’m currently an art student learning the fundamentals of art in The Art and Science of Drawing series on Skillshare. So far it has been an amazing series that has boosted my ability and skill as an artist, and has really opened my understanding to many things about art.

My goals.

I have no idea what I want to do for a living. I love art, but there are so many fields in art. So to help myself figure out what I want to do for a living, I will first finish the art course series I’m going through, and then try to open up commissions online and get a following and sell my art and stuff. I’ve been given ideas on how to do that, but unfortunately those ideas involve using shitholes like Twitter. You gotta do what you gotta do I guess. Anyway, once that works, which it will (unless I get other opportunities/options), I will see where that takes me. My thinking could change of course, but as of right now, I really don’t wanna live off of selling my art and doing commissions. That seems like such a scarily-unpredictable and unstable way of living.

Achievements.

The only reason I have this section in my bio is because after searching up how to write an artist’s bio, it said to list your achievements, so here I go.

I don’t really have any art achievements. :/ I was commissioned twice, and both times I finished the drawing and the client was really satisfied with the result. But I didn’t get that commission because of any advertising I did. I only got it because someone from my church heard I drew and decided to commission me without having any idea where my skill was at. That’s about it.

Significant Projects I’m working on…

Hmm… Well there’s that gunslinger comic, but I haven’t been able to focus on it because I’m focusing on the art courses. Then there’s that even bigger comic I wanna make about my main character. I can’t summarize the story because it would take too long and it’d sound stupid and cleche, but I don’t think it is. And even if it is, it’s MY stupid cleche story and I will make it into a comic some time. Either that or an animated series, but that’s extremely unlikely.

Anyway, my most significant project I’m working on is finishing this art course series and then trying to get started on commissions and stuff.

About myself.

To those online who don’t know me, I may seem like just a normal average nerd who loves thicc scifi robot girls. But if you get to know me, you’ll see that I can be pretty weird. And I’m not apologetica about it. I’m weird and I’ll stay weird.

I’m… uuh… I have no idea how to describe myself. I was gonna give a bunch of adjectives that describe me but I don’t know how to describe me. It’s easy to list all my good qualities, but I don’t wanna do that because obviously I’m not perfect and I don’t wanna make myself out to be better than I am. Also, listing only my good qualities just feels wrong. So I guess I just wont. :/

Okay this next part will take very long. But before I write that, I need to say something else. If you want to commission me, we will have to talk about it. You can see that I have a lot of character drawings, but since starting the art course series, I have essentially phased out all my skills and techniques I used to use for drawing characters. I'm completely relearning everything about drawing, so I cannot draw characters reliably right now. I can draw cups and other still life subjects better than I can draw characters. So if you want to commission me, we will really have to talk about all the details.

My story or something. Where I come from and stuff.

Not Always an Artist: The Unartistic Era, 2002-~2014

It’s extremely unfortunate, but I’m not one of those people that when asked about art, would say “I’ve always loved drawing. Art has always been my thing and I’ve always been the kid who sits in a corner and draws all day.” That wasn’t me. Art was the farthest thing from my mind for the longest time. I favoured science and logic and how things worked far above anything that was even remotely creative. At one point, I think you could even say I was repulsed by the idea of doing anything creative, or even emotional. For the longest time I wanted to be an engineer, designing and making robots. Every opportunity I got, I would take apart things and try to figure them out and then put them back together. My older sister got into art way before I did, and I could not relate whatsoever. Art was such a foreign concept to me and I could never imagine being an artist.

Stick Figure Animations: The Hyun’s Dojo Era, ~2014-~2016

But then my brother showed me some youtube channel called “Hyun’s Dojo.” They were stick figure fight animations, but they were… actually good. Before that time, the only stick figure animations I’ve ever seen were the shitty ones me and my siblings and our friends made on Stick Fighters, which is a really shitty animation program that I think is inspired by Pivot. But seeing the Hyun’s Dojo stick figure animations was amazing. Watching extremely simple people fighting each other with extremely high quality was awe inspiring. Before then, I would never have thought that stick figures could be so awesome. But here they were, taking ass and kicking ass. I think the first stick figure animation I’ve seen was The Greatest Swordsman Collab, or the obstacle course collab.. By Yeon, was it? I don’t remember. And then I saw Doors… and that’s when everything changed… Not really, I just wanted to sound dramatic. But really, the Doors collabs shaped so much of what I do and love today. For those of you who don’t know, which is probably everyone, the Doors collabs were side-scrolling animation collabs that were opened to any animators who wanted to participate. You animate a black stick figure going from the right side of the screen to the left side-... no, this will take way too long to explain. In short, it was a beautifully-abstract animation that has a very calm and relaxing vibe to it. Doors will always have a special place in my heart. This and so many other Hyun’s Dojo stuff made me want to try animating myself. But I knew literally nothing about animation. Not even the fact that it was a frame-by-frame process. So I was just stuck with watching extremely inspiring animations and not being able to try making some myself.

Getting Interested: The Era of My Spark of Interest in Art, Early 2016-Late 2016.

But then some time later, my brother found this app called Stick Nodes. It’s another mobile animation program inspired by Pivot, except it’s not shitty and it’s even better than Pivot in my opinion. Genuinely a really good program, despite the community. But back then it was an okay program. My brother showed me how it works and all that. I wasn’t too interested at first, but I decided to give it a try anyways. After making my first animation, I soon realized that if I improved enough, I could become as good as the guys on Hyun’s Dojo and maybe even be featured on the channel as well. So I animated as much as I could and had a blast with it. I was animating random models other people made like Marvel superheroes and other stuff. But then I decided I’d make my own stick figures with his own powers and stuff. So then I made my very first version of SP56, which is still my main character, even to this day. Of course, he was extremely overpowered at first and had no personality, but it was a start. Then later I found out about RHGs and Dojo Duelists, which inspired me to put my character and his story through many iterations and until I have the character I have today.

The Shift to Drawing Era, ~September 2016.

At around September 2016, I made my first efforted drawing. I’ve drawn many times before that, but I never put any effort into it and I had no idea what improvement was. But that day was the first time I put effort into a drawing. And I had a blast. I liked how the drawing turned out for the most part, and I wanted to do it again. So I did. I drew all the RHG characters and Dojo Duelists I loved, like Yupia, Bog, Shuriken, Nhazul, and others. I loved it. I loved drawing and animating, but ever so slowly I started to animate less and draw a lot more.

The Drawing Era, Late 2019, Early 2021.

By this point I barely animated at all. I did and still do love animating. Every time I do animate, I love it and I have just as much fun with it as when I draw. But for whatever reason I just don’t do it as much. I barely ever do it at all. During this time I’d draw characters, whether mine or others’, focus on improving, and just have fun. I had even made some stories I wanted to turn into comics, one of which actually seems to be going well.

The Art Education Era, 2021, Present Day.

I have been drawing for about four years, never having had any education in art. I would just teach myself through constantly drawing and looking at tutorials and references, and then guessing and bullshitting my way through the parts I didn’t know. And I was alright with it. Despite never having had an education, I made some pretty cool drawings and animations that I love even now. In my eyes, since I had gotten this far without any real education, art education was completely unnecessary. But then in August of 2021, due to some very bizarre circumstances, someone gave me the opportunity to get not only an art education, but a very VERY good education. I was given the opportunity to study The Art and Science of Drawing courses on Skillshare… FOR FREE. At the time of writing this I’m almost halfway through it and it has IMMENSELY helped me with art and opened my understanding to so much. I can’t imagine not knowing what I do now and not using the skills and techniques that I do now. And I’m not even halfway done with it! There’s so much more to learn and I’m excited to see what else is in store for me. I cannot be thankful enough and I will forever be grateful for this opportunity.

So yeah, that was my dramatic anime backstory. Uuuh… I don’t know how to end this bio so… I guess I’ll just end it here. Anyone know how to end a bio, or maybe how to improve it? If so, please tell me.
